Massage Therapy
At Apex Performance and Chiropractic (APC), we utilize our massage service to aid in your pain management. As with all our services, we don’t utilize a “one size fits all” approach. Before we begin your massage therapy, we will sit with you to discuss your comfort level and ensure the treatment you receive is effective.
We utilize Deep Tissue Massage at APC. Deep tissue massages use firm pressure that goes deeper into the tissue than what you might expect from a spa massage. Our intention is to impact your tissue for lasting changes. This can be in the form of holding compression, range of motion work or even neuromuscular techniques.
There are three main areas that we address in our Deep Tissue Massage Therapy:
1. Reduce Pain
Muscle tension that is caused by chronic pain can be relieved through deep tissue massage. This is achieved by massage techniques that can loosen tight tissue clusters causing pain. Some examples of chronic pain that can be relieved are lower back pain, plantar fasciitis, fibromyalgia, and neck stiffness. Research has reported that deep tissue massage can be more effective for relieving chronic pain than many other medical treatments, and is usually more cost-effective as well.
It is commonly known that opioid addiction is a growing epidemic. Often this is brought on by medicating for pain management. We believe that helping to reduce pain through the use of massage therapy can help to reduce the chances of an opioid dependency in patients.
2. Break-Up Scar Tissue
Scar tissue can cause chronic pain and stiffness. Getting regular deep tissue massages can help break up this scar tissue by improving circulation and drainage which can improve flexibility and range of motion in the area where the scar tissue is located. It is often recommended that those recovering from surgery should get deep tissue massages to minimize scar tissue.
3. Rehabilitate Injured Muscles
If you have injured muscles, a deep tissue massage can help stretch tight or twisted muscles and can also facilitate the movement of toxins from your muscles. Deep tissue massage therapy is used frequently to treat sports-related injuries. Many athletes are incorporating deep tissue massage into their recovery protocols, as they can help delay the onset of muscle soreness, help with muscle fatigue, and prevent injuries.
